Dave began his association with Hardwick-Day after 15 years as an academic administrator, researcher, and professor at Carleton College; and as a consultant with McKinsey and Company in planning, management and operations in a wide range of sectors.
Dave and Hardwick-Day associate Patricia Ross will work with colleges and universities to support data-informed academic decision-making and planning by offering three integrated services:
• The Resource Optimization Model helps leadership determine the optimal use of institutional resources;
• Accreditation Preparation and Response supports the assessments and evaluations needed for institutional accreditation; and
• Academic Planning builds on these by providing specialized tools and services tailored to the particular issue at hand.
As an associate dean and member of the budget committee at Carleton, Dave was responsible for the College academic budget, coordinated major building projects and renovations with facilities, served as liaison with faculty on budgetary issues and priorities, and led a special project to revamp governance of College athletics, including management of intercollegiate athletics. As chair of the Philosophy Department, he revised curriculum for the major, developed programs that linked the department with two non-departmental College programs and served on the College promotion and tenure committee.
At McKinsey and Company, a global management consulting firm, Dave was able to combine his interests in institutional planning and information technology and apply them to strategy and management challenges for the insurance industry, retail banking, K-12 education systems, and other clients.
Dave earned his B.F.A. in Music from Concordia University in Montreal, a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Maryland, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota.
